OPEN ePortfolio uses Joomla open source. We are forming a consortium of educational institutions to provide a small financial investment and a classroom beta testing area for upgrading Joomla 1.5 eportfolio / assessment solutions to Joomla 1.6 eportfolio and assessment solutions.
Consortium members will receive free training and support to enable your institution to use the system without any consulting fees. Consortium members will also receive free materials that will help integrate OPEN ePortfolio in the classroom.
Joomla is a powerful free open source platform that when configured with the right add-ons can be a powerful solution to 99% of the needs mentioned in this forum.
Joomla 1.6, now in Alpha2 phase, is providing even more sophisticated features for access control, privacy settings, custom groups and more. I am migrating an existing eportfolio solution I created in Joomla 1.5 to 1.6. I am convinced that this FREE solution, if configured correctly could replace many of the commercial offerings available and surpass Sakai and OSP.
Our goal is to have the system complete by Fall of 2010. We await the Beta version of Joomla 1.6.
When complete Joomla will be FREE and the add-ons that will be developed will be offered for a very affordable license.
The system will:
Balance Formative and Summative Assessment
Provide a very creative space for ePortfolio
Provide a fun and easy social network for the students
Allow for multiple custom criteria to be assessed on any artifact (article) in the system.
Pull detailed reports based on advanced search criteria with sophisticated graphs and charts utilizing Google Apps
Track student progress over time.
